Dice have fascinated people for thousands of years and have been used in everything from gambling to various forms of games and rituals. In this blog post, we will explore the background of some of the most famous dice games and their significance in different cultures.
Origin and development of dice games
Dice games can be traced back to ancient civilizations such as Mesopotamia and Egypt, where dice were often used in religious rituals or to determine fate. Over time, these simple dice-based activities evolved into more complex games such as Craps and Yatzy.
Craps
Craps is one of the most popular dice games in the USA and is played in casinos all over the world. Originally known as Hazard, the game developed in Europe during the Middle Ages. It wasn't until the game was brought to New Orleans in the 18th century that craps truly began to take shape and became popular among both the rich and the poor.
Yatzy
Yatzy is a dice game that has also gained enormous popularity, primarily in Scandinavia. It is said to have originated from a Canadian family game in the 1950s. The game was commercially introduced in Sweden by the board game factory Alga, and has since been a favorite in many Swedish homes.
