When drawing character illustrations, I mainly focus on capturing the essence of line art and translating objects and spaces onto a two-dimensional plane. I feel that ukiyo-e represents both the origin of this approach and one of its perfected forms. I am deeply honored to be given the opportunity to showcase collaborations alongside the great masterpieces and cultural traditions that have had a profound influence on me. Hokusai’s paintings have iconic expressions that define each work — whether it’s the waves in The Great Wave off Kanagawa or the cherry blossoms in Fuji from Goten-yama at Shinagawa, along the Tōkaidō. These elements marry excellently with Hatsune Miku, who can assume countless forms when combined with various concepts. I truly enjoyed creating this work and hope it serves as a portal for viewers to explore the worlds of both Hokusai and Miku.
